Another Liebster Award! Wow!!!

What! Another award nomination!

That’s what I thought when the lovely Jenny Pugh nominated me for a Liebster award. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – its always a pleasure to receive a nomination from one of my fellow bloggers. It means I’m doing something right! And it’s great to have received this nomination from Jenny because I am a huge fan of her blog The World Of Jenny Pugh, and I always look forward to her posts – and I’m not just saying that because she’s reading this! 😉This is actually my second Liebster nomination but who’s counting, right? And who cares? I’m always thrilled to get nominated!liebster-awardThe rules of the Liebster Award are pretty straightforward:

  1. You thank the person who nominated you
  2. Answer the questions given to you by the person who nominated you.
  3. Nominate eleven bloggers for this award.
  4. Think of eleven questions to ask your nominees.

liebster-award-a

So first things first, I’d like to thank Jenny for this nomination. She’s actually been following Nostalgia Pie pretty much since the early days and has always been very enthusiastic about my posts and very supportive. So thank you, Jenny – you’re the best. And if you’ve never checked out The World Of Jenny Pugh, do so now. You’ll get a sneak peak into Jenny’s fabulous world and see what a thoroughly nice lady she is. 😊

JENNY’S QUESTIONS:

1. Which film do you think everybody should see, and why?

Goodness there are tons of films I think everyone should see but just off the top off my head I would have to say Grease purely for the feel good factor, the awesome songs, and those fantastic outfits, and the fact that you could never feel glum after having watched it. I dare you not to walk away singing and dancing after having watched Grease!

2. If money were no object, what would you do with your time?

There’s so much I would like to do! Blog; write a novel; travel, and create housing for homeless people, create jobs for the unemployed, spend more time with the people I care about among many, many other things. Oh to live the dream!!!

3. Do you have any funny responses when you receive spam phonecalls?

Sadly no – I’m way too polite! I can’t remember when was the last time I got a spam call anyway because I hardly ever get them but I really should think of some responses – just in case…

4. Is there any animal that you’d like as a pet, but can’t because they’re not really ‘in the house’ pets?

Unfortunately the fella and I can’t keep pets because of our allergies so most animals would be ‘not in the house pets.’ But ever since I was a very young child, I’ve loved peacocks. They’re absolutely stunning and there’s something so majestic about them so yeah, I wouldn’t mind having a peacock!

5. If a film was being made about your life, what would they call it and who would you want to play you?

Never Born To Follow would be the title of the film which incidentally is also the title of one of my favourite songs. I can’t really think of anyone famous who looks like me, so I suppose my niece or cousin could play the younger me, and my sister the older me. Besides my sister has been around for most of my life so she already knows the plot!

6. What do you enjoy most about blogging?

Everything! I enjoy the whole process that goes into writing a post from concept to research to finished article, and that it gives me a chance to write about things that really interest me from my point of view. Blogging also enables me to come  across some awesome blogs that I enjoy reading which I could very easily have missed, and it’s brought me into contact with some fantastic bloggers.

7. What was your favourite place that you’ve ever been?

There’s just way too many to name! I have many favourites because lots of places I have been to are special to me in one way or another but I will give a special shout out to Bournemouth on the coast because I totally fell in love with the place and I have very to fond memories of the time we spent living there. It totally broke my heart to leave. 😓😓

8. What’s your favourite quote? screen-shot-2016-01-11-at-7-13-22-am
Sounds like the story of my life but of course my life is nowhere near as fascinating as Bowie’s!

9. What was the first record/cassette/CD/download single you ever bought?

Michael Jackson’s Dangerous CD. I bought that with my very own money that I earned from two weeks work experience. I listened to it constantly on repeat until my dad got sick of it. In my humble opinion, Dangerous was Michael Jackson’s best ever album and I could listen to it endlessly even now and never get bored of it. Furthermore, every time I hear the album it brings back great memories of the early nineties, secondary school and my early teenage years.

Dangerous-cover

10. What do you love most about where you live?

Well I’ve only just moved to Massachusetts so I’m still trying to explore my new surroundings and discover what’s here. But what I love without a shadow of a doubt is that I live just outside of Boston – the city that gave us New Kids On The Block! I’ve been a massive fan since I was eleven and ever since I clapped eyes on the five bad brothers from the bean town land, I’ve wanted to live in Boston (or as in my case now, near it!) and I can’t believe my dream has come true! Aside from the New Kids connection, Boston has a lot of history, culture, and a distinctly English vibe that I’ve never felt in the other states I’ve visited. It also has great seafood and I love the Bostonian accent!

11. What made you start blogging?

I have a few other blogs out there but Nostalgia Pie was the one that kicked everything off. I was coming across a lot of things from my childhood: TV shows; pop artists, clothing, books…things I’d long forgotten about. And I remember the buzz I got when I stumbled across them again. I’d thought about blogging for a while but couldn’t find a topic I was interested in enough to blog about consistently. I suppose you could say the topic found me! Childhood memories make me very happy and I wanted to share that with those who had an interest in the seventies, eighties and nineties knowing that they’d get the same buzz from it as I do.

THE BLOGGERS I WISH TO NOMINATE:

This is the part I always find difficult because there are so many great blogs out there.  Blogs nominated for a Liebster award need to fit within a certain criteria, and I normally follow these guidelines but just this once, I’m going to pick the eleven blogs which have interested me the most recently. Nominees don’t have to participate if they don’t wish to, and even though I try very hard not to nominate bloggers who don’t wish to receive nominations, if I’ve selected you, I’m sorry! 😼

10. Tamarind And Thyme  https://tamarindandthyme.wordpress.com

11. Miss Marzipan http://missmarzipan.com/

MY QUESTIONS FOR THE NOMINEES:

Now this is the part of the process I do enjoy especially as it gives me a chance to get to know my fellow bloggers a little better. I’m going to do things a little differently to how I normally would and base my questions around a theme, so surprise surprise, I’m choosing a nostalgia theme!

  1. Nobody really liked school dinners but was there anything on your school canteen’s menu that you actually looked forward to tucking into?

  2. Punk, new romantic or cheesy pop?

  3. What sitcom from your childhood did your family used to gather around the TV to watch?

  4. Who was your first teen crush?

  5. What’s your favourite eighties’ movie?

  6. What was your biggest fashion disaster?

  7. Is there any long forgotten food item that you’re hoping will make a comeback?

  8. What was your best ever childhood  Christmas present?

  9. Did you ever read any comics when you were a child?

  10. What was your favourite playground game?

  11. If a time machine could take you back to either the seventies, eighties or nineties, which decade would you choose and why?

So once again thanks to Jenny and congrats to all the nominees. â˜ș

Good Grief! I’ve Been Nominated For A Liebster Award!

Liebster-award

It’s not every day that I get nominated for an award, so I was blown away to receive a nomination for The Liebster Award from the lovely Jenny, who’s the amazing blogger behind The World Of Jenny Pugh.

I know some people don’t like to receive nominations for a number of reasons but I absolutely love it! As these nominations come from fellow bloggers, it means a lot that one of my peers digs this blog and thinks it’s worthy of some kind of recognition. And as Nostalgia Pie is my very first blog and the one that kick started everything, I’m even more chuffed. Nice one, Jenny!

SO WHAT’S THIS LIEBSTER THING ALL ABOUT?

liebster-award

For those of you who have never heard of The Liebster Award before, it’s an online award given to (usually new)bloggers  (generally with less than two hundred followers) by other bloggers. Accepting the award means adhering to a few rules which normally involve answering 11 questions asked by the blogger who nominated you, adding 11 facts about yourself, then nominating between 3-11 bloggers and asking them 11 questions of your own.

So I will gladly be following the above but before I do that I will be taking a little time out to thank the lovely blogger who nominated me.

THANKS JENNY!

liebster-award-a

I was nominated by the fantastic Jenny whose blog The World Of Jenny Pugh is amazing and one of my favourite reads. If you haven’t checked it out yet, then get to it!

I’ve been following Jenny’s blog for two years and in that time, I’ve been fortunate enough to get to know the lady behind the blog. Jenny isn’t just a talented writer whose posts have inspired and motivated me, but she’s also something of a sweetie and I don’t know anyone who couldn’t like her. It’s just too bad we live at opposite ends of the country as she’s someone I’d definitely like to knock back a few cocktails with!

So Jenny, thank you so much for nominating me for The Liebster Award. You know I how much I think your blog rocks, so this is awesome. Oh and like you, I also love the eighties, was into Fimo clay big time, and can’t walk in heels to save my life – hence my collection of ballet pumps. However, unlike you, no one can ever and will ever get me on a bike!

ANSWERS TO JENNY’S 11 QUESTIONS

1. If money was no object, what job would you be doing (if any?)

There’s a very frustrated, big-haired, leather-clad rocker trapped in the body of this teeny, weeny little girl who’s struggling to get out, so that’s probably what I would be doing. And if money was no object, I’d perform for free (but then again it would probably have to be for free as I can’t see anyone paying to see me!)
2. What’s your favourite colour, and why?

I really love jewel tones in emerald, amethyst, and magenta. Otherwise I’ll go for black. That’s me – from one extreme to the other!
3. If I beemed down in an alien spaceship and wanted to be shown your favourite place, where would you take me, and why?

I seem to have fallen in love with most of the places I’ve visited so I don’t really have a particular favourite. But maybe my new alien friend would like to accompany somewhere I’ve never been before but have always wanted to visit? Top of the list would be Australia.

4. If you could meet one famous person, alive or dead, who would it be and why?

Alfred Hitchcock. I’m a huge fan of his films and I’d love to know what goes on in that mind of his – but I reckon he’d be too shrewd to ever let me find out.
5. If you could ban one bad habit in people, what would it be and why?

Goodness – where do I begin??? I think I would start with people’s lack of gratitude. It drives me mad that people want. want, want all the time but never appreciate what they already have, or expect things from others and never express gratitude when they get what they want.
6. If you had to look like any celebrity, who would it be and why?

I’ve actually grown to (somewhat) like how I look and I’ve stopped wishing I could look like someone else (those were my teenage years for you!) But if I had to choose, I would be a darker version of French supermodel Laetitia Casta back in the 1990s.
7. What are your 5 favourite songs and why?

I have at least 500 favourite songs! But off the top of my head, I’d choose the following simply because they remind me of important moments in my life:

My Favourite Girl – New Kids On The Block

How Long – Hinder

Stranger Inside – Shinedown

Home – Alter Bridge

DJ Got Us Falling In Love – Usher
8. Do you have a signature dish that you are brilliant at making?

I have two. One is a seafood pasta dish which my sister said is restaurant quality – and my sis is notoriously difficult to please! The other is a grilled chicken dish made with coriander, chilli and lime, which I serve with couscous, salad and mango salsa.
9. Which fictional detective would you most like to be and why?

Nancy Drew without a shadow of a doubt. She was everything a young lady should be: strong; feisty; fearless, intelligent, and pretty with it but she was also very nice and treated people with respect. She could solve centuries-old cases that left even the local police baffled. Plus she got to go out with Ned Nickerson who we’re led to believe is quite hot!
10. What’s your favourite book and why?

Way too many to choose. I am a bookworm after all! But The Hypnotic World Of Paul McKenna has been pretty influential as it was the book that got me interested in hypnotherapy – which has been life changing in more ways than one!
11. What place most sticks in your mind and why?

I’ve been fortunate to visit many places around the world but I’m going to say that Euston, London is the place that sticks out in my mind the most. It may seem like an odd choice but when I was nearing the end of my twenties, I spent an awful lot of time in Euston and the surrounding areas: partying, getting sloshed, going to gigs, crashing in my sister’s room when she lived in halls; hanging out with mates and generally enjoying life. And when Hubby and I started going out, we tended to hang out around Euston a lot. But boy did I waste a lot of time there waiting for cabs in the freezing cold (yes Mum, I should have worn a jumper!)

The place brings back such good memories for me that I feel nostalgic every time I think about Euston, and I get goosebumps every time I go there.

11 FACTS ABOUT ME

OK this bit is never easy because I am following some bloody amazing blogs and it’s so hard to choose. Welcome 2014: The First Blog Post Of The Year

beer-me.jpg

Hope everybody’s had an amazing Christmas and New Year. I just can’t believe how fast the time has gone. Two weeks ago I was running around trying to do a whole bunch of last minute stuff – and now I’m sat here anticipating my return to work tomorrow and the only reminder of Christmas is the last remaining Christmas pudding in the cupboard!

2013 has been a very good year and I do hope that 2014 will be just as good. I don’t bother with new year’s resolutions – they’re pointless for someone like me – but I do have a list of things I would like to at least attempt this year so we’ll see how I get along with that.

I’ve also thought a great deal about Nostalgia Pie and my plans for the blog this year. All my blogs are very special to me but I love Nostalgia Pie just a little bit more because it’s the blog that kicked off everything. I’m still going to be looking at everything that’s associated with my childhood years but I’d also like to feature interview people who’d like to share childhood stories from their era. If I’m lucky I may even be able to get a well known face or two who used to be on screens ‘back in the day!’ But of course, all the usual favourites from Nostalgia Pie will still be here. Here’s hoping the blog will be bigger and better than last year!

Happy new year everyone!

Goodbye 2013 – You’ve Been Awesome!

images

Christmas is over and we are about to embark on a new year which holds promise, endless possibilities and adventure. Or another 365 days just chilling out! Either way is fine by me!

It’s been a blissful Christmas and the break is not over for me and Hubby as we have taken extra time off to relax before we get caught up in our hectic schedules again. And we have had the most relaxing time. I almost feel guilty that we didn’t make better use of our time and head off somewhere but hey, we’ve got the whole of next year to go gallivanting if time (and work!) will allow.

It’s given me time to catch up with blogging as I’ve been quite neglectful in the run up to Christmas. Oh and I’ve taken to watching early episodes of Neighbours partly because I’ve been feeling especially nostalgic and think that the old stuff is so much better than the show is now (sorry, Neighbours!) but also because I was very young when Neighbours first hit our screens and don’t remember the earlier episodes very well. In fact when Neighbours was first shown in the UK it used to be on at around 9am while I was at school so there was no chance of me watching it (it was before they started repeating it at 5:30pm.) Anyway, I’ve come across a whole bunch of characters and storylines I never knew about – so stay tuned for further blog posts about that.

What a year 2013 has been. To say it’s been eventful is something of an understatement. Let’s take a look at the year we’re about to say goodbye to:

So it’s been quite a year with so much going on. Some of it memorable and some of it things we’d rather forget! I wonder if I’ll be talking of the events of 2013 in years to come – if Nostalgia pie is still around of course.

2013 has been quite a year for me in terms of blogging. I’ve been working on several blogs this year but it’s Nostalgia Pie that is very special to me because it was my very first attempt at blogging. I started the blog back in 2012 but began posting on a serious level at the beginning of this year. At first it was a little bit like shouting in an empty room but slowly but surely the likes started… followed by the comments… and then the follows. All the feedback I received has been extremely positive and it gave me the encouragement to keep going. It’s great to share memories and have people know what you’re talking about. And I remember the two blog posts that caused everything to skyrocket: Top Twenty Childhood Sweet Treats and Baked Alaska. That’s when I knew people were actually reading my blog!

And of course I got to know some awesome fellow bloggers and without Nostalgia Pie this would not have been possible. And being nominated for the Versatile Blogger Award pretty much made my year! Of course I plan to keep blogging in 2014 and bringing that wave of nostalgia back into everyone’s lives.

I’d like to wish all my fellow bloggers and everyone out there a very happy new year. Best wishes for 2014.

Thank You!

65ac166bd27a2dfed803ebb579323b4a

I started Nostalgia Pie because I wanted to write about all the things that remind me of my brilliant childhood – and it has very much become one of my happy places. When I was a kid, I was told by the ‘powers that be’ not to be in such a hurry to grow up; that school days were the best days of your life, and that there was plenty of time to be a grown up. Of course, at the time, I thought I knew best. How little I knew!

377328_1623863971930_259105361_n

I was actually telling a colleague today – who isn’t that much older than me – how lucky we were to be born during the era in which we were born. He disagreed claiming that everyone says that about their generation. He’s right – everyone does indeed say that. But I do genuinely believe that my era – was seriously awesome, as Hubby would say!

65f210a189ea186b63fe52d3488324bb

And it seems as though many of you agree. I’m thrilled that so many of you enjoy reading and following Nostalgia Pie. I only really started working on it properly back in March of this year, so I’m surprised that it’s been so well received in such a short space of time. And I love reading all the lovely comments I receive.

So a huge thank you to everyone who enjoys Nostalgia Pie and to those of you who have been busy spreading the word – you make what I do worthwhile!

xx
